Surgeon may have infected new moms who died of herpes.

According to the BBC, a single surgeon may have infected two mothers who died of herpes after giving birth.
In 2018, the doctor performed Caesareans on both women.
Families are demanding that inquests be held after being informed there were no links between the deaths.
According to the East Kent Hospitals Trust, the source of the infection was unknown, and the surgeon had no previous exposure to the virus.
Maternal deaths are extremely uncommon.
According to official estimates, 191 mothers died within six weeks of giving birth among more than 2.1 million births in the UK between 2017 and 2019.
HSV-1, one of two types of the herpes simplex virus, causes nearly no deaths.
