Winterbourne Hospital Investigation

The Winterbourne View hospital investigation took place at Winterbourne View, a Castlebeck-owned and operated private hospital in Hambrook, South Gloucestershire, England.


People with learning difficulties and problematic behaviour were subjected to physical and psychological abuse at the facility, according to a Panorama investigation that aired on television in 2011.


Despite several warnings from local social services and the English national authority (Care Quality Commission), the mistreatment continued.


Terry Bryan, a senior nurse, expressed his concerns to Winterbourne View administration and the CQC, but his complaint was ignored.


The government-run hospital was forced to close its doors.
